So no English players would get into the Welsh team.
We’ve heard about the Englishman captaining Wales, so what about the other 8 Englishmen in the ‘Welsh’ squad?
The Welsh team that started against Slovakia had 4 Englishmen, and the winning goalscorer who came of the bench… another Englishman. So do the ‘Welsh’ have more pride than the English? Perhaps they have, because after all, no Welshman would stoop so low as to change his nationality for a game of football.
Englishmen included in the Wales squad:
- Ashley Williams
- James Chester
- David Edwards
- Andy King
- Jonny Williams
- George Williams
- Simon Church
- Hal Robson-Kanu
- Sam Vokes
So, good luck to the 23 English Englishmen on Thursday afternoon, but I guess it’s a complement to English football, including the 5 English Northern Irish players, and the five English Republic of Ireland players, we are the only nation with 42 players at the Euros.
